Only you and your surgeon can decide if breast implant surgery is appropriate for you. However, before considering surgery, you may wish to consider your answers to the following:
-
Do you expect breast implants to change your life?
Breast implant surgery can change your physical appearance. However, no cosmetic surgery will change who you are, or lead to a "perfect" life. It is important to maintain realistic expectations.1, 2
Do you feel your breasts are not the right size?
If you have a generally strong self-image, but have felt dissatisfied with your breast size for a very long time, implant surgery may be an option.1, 2
-
Have your breasts changed over time?
Whether its weight changes, pregnancy, or age, time and gravity have a way of catching up with us. Breast implant surgery can potentially restore your former breast shape and size.2
-
Are you going through a difficult time?
Breast implant surgery may not be an appropriate option at this time. It is unlikely that changing the way you look will help you work through a difficult emotional crisis.3
-
Are you financially prepared?
Breast implantation may not be covered by health insurance, so you should have a payment plan in place. Be sure to discuss payment options with your surgeon.3
